Redkite’s support based in hospitals

Redkite sponsors social workers in the paediatric oncology wards of children’s hospitals in Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne. Social Workers are also sponsored in specific adolescent and young adult oncology units throughout Australia. Children and young people in most of these hospitals also benefit from Redkite music therapy.

In time and with the support of the community, we hope to expand our services throughout Australia.

If you would like to talk to Redkite about providing services in your area, please contact: national@redkite.org.au.

Social Work

The continuum of care

Redkite believes that the best way to support a child or young person through cancer is by supporting the whole family or their support network.  Redkite provides a range of services to support children and young people with cancer, as well as their families. Redkite’s services are available to families from the point of diagnosis, throughout the treatment phase and in returning home to the local community. Redkite also provides special support to bereaved families.
Redkite funds professional counselling and oncology social work services in children’s hospitals and adolescent and young adult (AYA) treatment centres across Australia. The provision of these services extends throughout treatment and for a period beyond and recognises the ongoing emotional and practical issues for young people and their families. Music Therapy

Self expression through music therapy

Redkite sponsors professional, qualified music therapists in children’s hospitals across Australia.
Music therapists provide a creative and supportive environment in which children and young people can express themselves and exercise choice and control. Music therapy helps to strengthen the ability for a child or young person to manage the experience of cancer by reducing stress, anxiety and pain.
